Self-portrait by Margaret Preston of Australia, 1930.“Western Australian gum blossom,” by Margaret Preston of Australia, 1928.“Helen,” by Edward John Poynter of England, 1881 (Helen of Troy was a great beauty — the sitter for this is actress Lillie Langtry.)“The sea hath its pearls,” by William Henry Margetson of England, 1897 (he did the frame too!)“Study of a head: still as a bud whose petals close,” by Edward Onslow Ford of England, 1895.“The sons of Clovis II,” by Évariste Luminais of France, 1880 (Interesting signage explains: “The rebellious sons os the7th-century Merovingian King of France, Clovis II, were punished by their mother who ordered them to be hamstrung and set adrift on the river Seine.”)“The warrior, from the series Mubarizun – no more,” by Adeela Suleman of Pakistan, 2014.My husband, as you can see, took some liberties as a photographer.
We ended our visit with a snack in their cafe — where we encountered some colorful company!…

Happiness Between Tails speaks to and from the heart. It connects lovers — of pets, authors, books — and of my still-unreleased novels, “Flamenco + the Sitting Cat” and “Tango + the Sitting Cat.” The stories are my love letters to all who fear they're too odd, too damaged, too old, too whatever to find happiness. I love museums and art exhibits are so amazing. I had to move into my daughter’s home due to money constraints. After open heart surgery in 2015, I had to retire and sell my home. I rented for a time (which I had done many times before the purchase of my home) and did alright for a time. But, now I am in the process of finishing a small structure on the inside, which I had put on my daughter’s property, which will be my art studio…something I’ve always thought about. It is a slow process due to my age and health constraints (I now have an artificial heart valve) but I am getting there. Thank you for sharing some wonderful photos of the art you found when you visited there.
When we were in Australia, we toured the Opera House and watched an opera. We climbed the Harbor Bridge and I got some black opal pieces in Sydney. We then went north.
My hubby’s sister is planning a trip to Austria and New Zealand in 2021. They were born in Australia. I look forward to the trip and hope to visit Australia Contemporary Art.
Love the art and sculpture! Couldn’t help thinking of our rising oceans when I saw the 1880 French painting, “The sons of Clovis II” by Évariste Luminais.
The MCA was just your cup of tea, was it not? You chose some grand specimens to show us. Lillie Langtry is a worthy Helen of Troy! And I love the pearl at the sea … 🙂
By the way, the crown suits you well … 😉
