Combining creativity with business can be challenging. Author/blogger Shabnam Curtis is one heck of an organized writer! Here she generously shares her detailed and well-researched gameplan for self-publishing success of her book, “My Persian Paradox: Memories of an Iranian Girl”…
(1121 words – 8 minute read) Independence has been the magic word through out my life. Since I was a little girl, I wanted to be independent. I’ve tried hard and succeeded in so many aspects of my life; immigration, finance, job back in Iran. But, I have been a paycheck lady ever since I came to the U.S. Every now and then I thought about becoming a freelancer again but didn’t seriously pursue it. I was not and am not ready for the financial risk. But a few years ago, I noticed an inside revolution and strong desire, demanding to create something new other than a freelance project analyst. The uprising in my heart took me home; I began writing my memoir.
Writing my memoir taught me develop more critical thinking skills, approaching the society from not one but many different viewpoints. In short…
Happiness Between Tails blog/podcast speaks to and from the heart. It connects lovers — of pets, authors, reading — and of my still-unreleased novels. “Flamenco + the Sitting Cat” and “Tango + the Sitting Cat,” are my love letters to all who fear they're too odd, too damaged, too old, too whatever to find love and happiness with or without a partner. It’s nice to lay out how to become an Indie author. It sounds daunting and then you realize, not so much.
Thank you for this—good food for thought as I’m writing my next post. Good questions to ask myself—do I have what it takes to do this? The checklist seems daunting! So much for me to learn! And that’s ok. I am a beginner just starting out on this poetic journey. So, I’m saving this for future reference as I admit to myself ‘not now, keep taking baby steps…’
🙂
This made for really interesting reading. It’s fascinating to read how she went from the first spark to writing it, doing it, growing and learning as a result. The checklist is thorough and really insightful, with a lot of aspects I wouldn’t really have thought of. Thanks for sharing this with us =]
Daal, thank you for sharing Shabnam’s journey to publication. Her list is detailed and I think the work required of each task is substantial, but she has a good business sense. I suspect she has the right ideas about how to successfully self-pub and create a book and sufficient promotion that her book will get read. Really appreciate that you introduced us to Shabnam and she has been incredibly generous with what she’s learned.
Very interesting read. It is kind of Shabnam to share all these details. There are a lot of ideas that I will keep in mind, should there be another occasion. 😉
