Truman Capote was a genius writer and spoken word performer. He’s best known for “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” Yes, the movie version that starred the lovely Audrey Hepburn but that horribly mangled Capote’s marvelous novella.
Here Capote reads aloud his heartbreakingly sweet and profound autobiographical “A Christmas Memory”…
Here, along with his “Among the Paths to Eden,” is him reading the real version of “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”…
Have you read any of Truman Capote’s stories?

haven’t read that one – I think it’s much different from Tiffany’s, no?

True. It is a true story, and not a happy one. Thanks very much da-AL

Interesting timing, Da’al. Jean and I just finished reading Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and a couple of other short stories in the same paperback. Liked the other stories even better than Breakfast. He’s a fine writer. Fascinating and believable characters. A lot of heart in some of those short stories. Very poignant.

I believe that “In cold blood” was made into a movie as well wasn’t it?
I also saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s, but I didn’t understand it, maybe I should read the book instead … 😉

I don’t know about cold blood – haven’t read that one – for sure you should read the Tiffany’s book – it is short & comes with 3 other fabulous short stories

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s” – definitely a mangled movie – other than how beautiful Audrey Hepburn was, Capote must have been horrified.

from what I hear, he wanted Marilyn Monroe to star – also, he didn’t mind the mangling because he loved the $$

You made me laugh out loud with that last comment. Money does assuage a lot of ego trips, doesn’t it? Frankly, I don’t think MM could have salvaged that screen play.

Capote is on my to be read list.
I went to a live performance of his Christmas story being read (or at least part of it). It was so powerful and compelling. 🙂
