Happy Birthday Everyone! + Matt Snyder’s All-Nighter

Happy birthday to you, whenever it is! And to all of us! Last Sunday’s birthday party for cousin Ana mushroomed into a serendipitous celebration of multiple past, present, and future birthdays; those of my beloved husband, Ana’s son Lee and his wife, Sandy, our wonderful friend, Meg, our beautiful K-D doggy, and that of moi (click here for info about my novels-to-be-published)!

Khashayar’s gift to all was to fill our home with mouth-watering aromas from the tasty brunch he prepared; green bean frittata (click here for his variation on it), classic omelettes à la Julia Child (click here for her famed timeless how-to), his homemade sourdough bread, jam from a friend’s lime tree, fresh fruit salad, his special blend of Persian tea, his home-fermented water kefir (which is different from milk kefir), and a further array yummy food.

The many courses crescendoed into song and cheesecake topped with fresh fruit over which he drizzled fine maple syrup…

Lee, Ana, me, Khashayar, Meg, and Sandy féted our birthdays of past, present, and future.

K-D’s cousin visited, too! Nala’s people are away hula-hula-ing in Hawaii. Much as it will be nice to have her folks back, we’ll miss Nala’s gentle and exceedingly cute presence tremendously when they return. After most of the humans left with full tummies, our four legged fuzzy folk took us out for a walk to the park…

The spring weather was amazing!

The All-Nighter by M. Snyder

We’ve all been there haven’t we? Reckless youth experiences?

I never drank when I was in middle or high school but once I turned 21, every chance I got to drink, be it a party or an event I downed a few.

I drank a lot between ages 21 & 24. After that though, sporadically till 2013 at my 25th high school reunion…quit cold turkey, because hangovers came to me sooner than later. I would discover I was allergic to sulfites, present in many of the kinds of drinks I drank.

But in Oct of 1993 I went to a party and we partied all night long.  Starting at my friend Tim’s apartment and ending at a bar called The Beef  Baron, that my unfortunate actions had us kicked out.

Not a proud moment in my life, but definitely memorable. It’s a story I enjoy telling, drunk enough to remember and relay. I’m grateful I never drank so much that I woke up in jail or worse drove drunk like a few friends of mine.

  1. I do enjoy a glass of wine (or maybe two *lol*) at home, but when I’m out, it always feels so bad when the evening is over, and I don’t like that – walking out sober feels good, and I can look forward to being home … 😉

  2. What a wonderful idea to celebrate all those birthdays together! And with Khashayar’s cooking!!! Happy birthday to all of you ❤

The all nighter … I have done two of those in my lifetime, but at home with my elder brother. The only two occasions when I got so drunk that my bed was spinning all night …

I do amaze myself sometimes when I feel I cannot do something and start it anyway, and it turns out fine. Those are the moments I feel very satisfied with myself. 🙂 ❤

    1. Thanks much Birgit for the happy birthday wishes 😊

I’ve had where I drank too much but fortunately not to that sort of point of no return.

Great point that pushing through fear can wind up wonderful!

  3. I’m a lightweight, I couldn’t even manage a whole can of coke! But I didn’t need alcohol to do stupid things. Including following too literally my parents edict that if if you don’t take money with you, you can’t spend it. Not a good idea if you run out of petrol on a lonely road.

  4. Looks like a great family gathering! How great to be married to a wonderful cook. I am too, though my wife is too humble about it.

Reckless youth experiences—I had a few. I didn’t hold my alcohol as well as others. My last hangover was more than 40 years ago. I don’t miss them.
