How are you faring during this challenging time? I mean individually in your slice of the globe? Let’s all help each other — tell us — how do you keep your spirits high?
“I do everything the man does, only backward and in high heels!” — Ginger Rogers
Here in Los Angeles, weeks ago, cleaning supplies were nowhere to be seen. Still, it wasn’t until I grocery shopped a couple of days ago that the sight of ravaged shelves was genuinely arresting. And then yesterday — things reached a tipping point. Long lines of heaped grocery carts, jammed parking lots… a friend canceled a much-planned birthday party, Iranian-American family shelved Persian New Year’s festivities…
Connecting with loved ones in any way I can, keeping fit — and having fun!! — are what keeps me afloat. Fortunately, everyone I know has their toilet paper and we’re all okay. That includes my family in worst-afflicted Iran, Italy, and Spain, along with Australia, Argentina, England, and Canada.
It also helps when my husband reminds me that people elsewhere have endured far worse for much longer. Another thing that lifts my spirits is when I visit blogs like RoiJoyeux’s. His is filled with kisses, interesting biographies of non-straight people, the treats he bakes for his loved ones, and dancing!…
“Anyone who ever gave you confidence, you owe them a lot.” — Truman Capote (read, don’t watching his phenom “Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Three Stories.”)
Happiness Between Tails speaks to and from the heart. It connects lovers — of pets, authors, books — and of my still-unreleased novels, “Flamenco + the Sitting Cat” and “Tango + the Sitting Cat.” The stories are my love letters to all who fear they're too odd, too damaged, too old, too whatever to find happiness. A few days ago there were already 8200 people dead in the US because of “normal” influenza (A and B). Imagine how many people must have been sick to reach a mortality number like that … Why does that not make the headlines? What is so special about Corona? It is not worse than influenza. Every year thousands of people die of influenza in Europe, and hundreds of thousands worldwide, in spite of vaccines. Nobody talks about that or throws countries into lock down.
If we eat healthy, keep up a positive spirit and – very important – observe good hygiene, get some fresh air, we will be fine. All the worrying is wearing down our immune system … and this we should observe in every influenza season to keep the mortality down.
I agree with your husband, in other places people have endured and are enduring much worse … I am thinking especially about the refugees and all the civilians trapped in war zones. … and we are hoarding toilet paper … it is a bit ridiculous, is it not, our priorities … 😉 😀
I saw something on Twitter about a crazy guy stocking up on zillions of disinfectants so he could sell them at some insanely high price — & I was cheered that so many folks thought he was a nut…
Unfortunately it is always the negative stuff that makes it way into the media, public or social … a strange phenomena. I would expect that people would want to hear positive news.
Yes, we must all do what we can to stay safe. I believe this is the first time that people all over the world have joined to try and defeat something before it becomes really bad — for this alone, I have some optimism that some good will come of this…
I am a Chinese junior high student blogger and YouTuber. I am not able to go outside due to the virus, but I usually write my blog and record my YouTube videos related to study at home.
This article is helpful for me very much to keep calm due to the virus. The tip is awesome! Thanks for sharing!

A blogger from Manchester found this wonderful home video from Italy in this connection:

Anne Wright made this post https://www.anniewrightpsychotherapy.com/covid-19-a-care-package-of-comfort-for-trying-times/
I am finding the meditation audio clip she made to be helpful. My Mum is really anxious about her job and the whole household is on edge.

The scary thing is we don’t know anything about it, how long it will last nor what will come out of it.

Well, I just gave my doggie a bath for peace of mind. Probably won’t matter much, except for the fact that my dog will snuggle up good.

That matters a lot 🙂
