Happiness was mine…
My loved ones were all content and healthy, I lived in a beautiful home, and I had just married an incredible man.
Little did I know…
I could be even happier! Moreover, my happiness teachers would be furry!
The cats were my idea…
My husband has every reason to loathe cats.
- They make his eyes run.
- His throat gets scratchy whenever they’re too close.
- If he pets one, his nose itches and worse.
Wonderfulness that he is, he agreed to adopt some. He even quickly fell in love with our felines!
Back then, while all animals charmed me, but…
I was an avowed cat lover. Cats are gorgeous, and better yet, they require minimal attention.
Dogs, I thought, were cute, but didn’t merit all the bother that owning one comes with. They need to be walked daily. They chew valuables and slobber. If you don’t train them, they’ll jump passersby and bark way too much. Some are biters!

Cat hater?…
In my experience, cats are terrific!!! They’re lovely, low-maintenance, and fun! Sure, one out of a million is neurotic, but those are in the minority.
My husband loves dogs best!
Given that he had agreed to our two cats, perhaps it was only right to get a dog.

What, dear reader, has your pet taught you?…

Good morning Daal,
you caught me on the point because I always watch my dog more closely to learn more from him. What I first learned from him was getting up early. He hears and sees and above all smells everything. I still have a lot to practice, but he’ll teach me that too 🙂 …
My plan is to report about this in my 2nd part of Empathy with awareness.
All the best for you, family and friends!!

Sweet post, dear Daal. I love both, grew up with both and added both to my own Dreampack. Currently, just one dog and still doubting to give a second one a loving home too. Patience, being calm and assertive and of course the unconditional love are the best lessons 🙂

& a sweet reply, dear Patty ❤
I always like when animals are in pairs — that way I don't feel so guilty when I don't have as much time as I'd like for them 🙂

Yes, that would be the reason to bring a new friend in our Dreampack too. However, to travel, for instance, it’s easier with one dog. In addition, Joy is a very independent dog and loves the one-on-one attention. Not sure if she would be more happy, if she had to share the attention 😉

Our last dog, “Lady”, was a gorgeous and lovable long-haired dachshund. She was with us from 1995-2009, when arthritis made her life unbearable. She certainly taught us unconditional love, fortitude and forgiveness.

my elder doggie is now dealing with arthritis — so hard to see them age so much quicker than we do…

If my animal friends have taught me anything, it is the value of unconditional love. In my life, I find I can love unconditionally without condoning ill conceived behavior.
