Where are you from? No, where are you really from?
Growing up moving around a lot, always with a ‘foreign’ accent wherever I resided, taught me early that identity can be a moving target.
My good friend, artist Connie Lane, often addresses identity in her sculptures and installations. Her sense of where she’s from is complex. A native of Hong Kong, she lives in Long Beach with her Angelino husband.

There’s still time to see her newest thought-provoking work at:
UNPACK at the PACKARD
205 E. Anaheim Street, Long Beach, CA 90813
November 5 to December 12, 2016 (Closed 11/23 – 11/26)
Wednesday to Friday, 11am to 5pm
Saturday, 10am to 2pm
2018 update: Here’s her April 2018 show — the first post about Bravura — and the pre-show ‘getting ready’ post — and the performance for that show.
Also, here’s an installation she did to honor lives lost to COVID-19.
