It’ll be Persian New Year soon…
Hoping everyone, of course most of all our dear ones, are safe during these frightening times. That bombs don’t continue to shake their homes all night. That burning oil tankers don’t again blacken their air to where their days are as dark as nights. That they can once again freely use their internet and telephones to reach out internationally…
Sorry I’ve taken this long to publish a new post—anything else feels so trivial. But always we must hope and take action as we can, otherwise what else is there? I am trying to find that hope in small things, like watching this traditional Nowruz hyacinth slowly find the light and bloom.

While it is hard to celebrate fully right now, the traditions of Nowruz remain a beautiful reminder of endurance and the promise of spring. If you’re interested in learning how Iranians and their friends traditionally welcome the Persian New Year, here is a look back at some pieces I’ve written during past times of global uncertainty:
- Happy Persian New Year 2021 (And We Just Got Our 1st Covid-19 Vaccines!): A look back at celebrating spring and finding relief during the pandemic.
- Hope Amid Corona Virus COVID19 Chaos & Video: My thoughts from the very beginning of the 2020 lockdowns, searching for light when the world suddenly went dark.
As writers and readers, it can be so hard to find the right words when the world feels like this. Where are you finding comfort or inspiration lately? Let me know in the comments.

We have two grandchildren still living with us and we do take comfort and inspiration from them. Mostly they keep us very alert to our responsibilities not to get lazy in our own approaches to today’s realities and to concentrate on providing them with as much security and rational perspective as we can.
