Since 1988, each December 1st, people worldwide show their support to end HIV, both as a disease and as a stigma. We pay our respects to those who’s lives have been cut short by it, and to those who live with it.
HIV is the second leading cause of death among adolescents globally and the No. 1 cause of death among adolescents in Africa. Adolescent girls and young women are particularly vulnerable, accounting for a startling 91% of new HIV infections among people aged 15-19 in sub-Saharan Africa, whereas young men in the same age group represent roughly 11%. It is hard for me to believe, in today’s advanced society, that this is still such a global issue. It is a truly horrific illness.

What I find truly horrific is that new cases CAN be prevented, just by being careful and get your self educated. So good for you Daal to bring this under the attention of readers on a regular base!

Horrible that AIDS and HIV are still such a threat to people all over the world, and that the people of Africa suffer so much. This is a scourge that can be wiped out with good education and the proper treatment.
