Tales of Writing + Books + Compassion + Culture + Wagging Tails

Love reading and writing? Searching for intelligent writing that’s heartfelt (tales), fun, and often animal-loving (happiness and tails)? You’re in the right place!

If you enjoy the ideas and sensibility here at my blog and on the Happiness Between Tails Podcast, you’ll love my novels once they’re published — “Flamenco & the Sitting Cat” and its sequel, “Tango & the Sitting Cat.” I adore reading, and they’re the kinds of stories that I seek out. They’re my love letters to all who worry that they’re too odd, too damaged, too old, or too whatever to find love and happiness with or without a partner.

About da-AL

da-AL with Emmy
My Emmy statuette.

One of my short stories was printed in Verdad, a literary magazine of Long Beach City College. When I took a short story class there and one at Golden West College (both in California), twice I was granted the honor of attending Literary Women Festival of Authors as each college’s “Emerging Author.”

My journalism awards include an Emmy, plus various cable TV ones. I’ve always been a writer, starting as a reporter for TV, radio, and print.

In the role of visual artist, I’ve been featured in “New Directions in Altered Books,” by Gabe Cyr and California State Long Beach’s literary journal, Rip Rap.

Some of my childhood was spent in parts of Spain, much of my school years between U.S. coasts. Throughout, I was thrilled to exchange letters with my grandmothers in Argentina and Spain, as well as penpals from the schools I left behind.

My Iranian-American husband and I share a passion for world dance, cuisine, music, travel, animals, and literature. The charming lab-mix dog in the photo keeps me from sitting too long and brooding over commas.

How often do I post?

I do my best to publish something new around the middle of every week. Your comments are dear to me, so if I haven’t replied to you within a week, my apologies in advance for what is surely an oversight.

  1. “Every writer isn’t a poet, but every poet is a writer=to write anything of value turning prose into that-which teaches a lesson to others well learnt is testimony of the gifts that God instilled within you to bring mankind fulfillment redefining civilization.”_-Van Prince
