Seagulls in California are like this — great to look at — and unmistakably made to blend in, not to stand out with color.
Traveling brings to my mind architecture, fashion, culture, food… stuff like that. Animals, not so much. After all, the city dweller that I’ve ever been, animals are just animals, right?
Not when it comes to Australia! After New Zealand’s Auckland / Rotorua / Redwoods / Huka Falls / Craters fo the Moon / Waitomo Glowworms Caves / Taupo / Pirongia / Hamilton Gardens / and then meeting marvelous family in Gold Coast, Australia / birds of Australia (Part 2 of this one) / seeing spectacular views in and around Gold Coast / eating a delicious meal on the beach / seeing wild things and cute things at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary / having fun with Rita Rigby / meeting the beasts of Brisbane and the beauty there / and enjoying Sydney this much and that much, as well as the purring there!
Aussie creatures come in attention-getting colors — here’s their seagull — red legs, beak, and eye rims! He’s just wetting your feet — In the next post, you’ll meet way more dramatic variations of birds.

Ok — their dogs are as doggy and as cute as ours…

What color are your local birds?
Great pics of the birds and I love the black dog. Actually I really love black dogs but just have one black and white one with several other color combo among all by dogs.

Thanks for asking. I am so-so. Still needing to get the ablation done and will probably the procedure sometime in October. I have had computer problems and this W10 is giving me fits. I so want to go back to my W8 since a computer whiz more or less fixed it for me. I hope you are well. I have wondered about you and what dogs you have now.

Sending you my best, dear. Computer probs are indeed vexing – fingers crossed that none coming my way any time soon. I’m down to doggie in the video – lab mix – & a very old kitty who’s decided only the last couple of days that she isn’t hungry. The vet doesn’t know what’s up, so he gave her antibiotics. Now we’re trying different foods. Other than that all well here ❤

Oh my you hve only one dog. I have never been down to only one dog. I’ve always had at least three dogs and usually five or more. I am sorry to hear about your old cat. I so hope the antibiotic can get her feeling well again.

I’ve seen Australian seagulls before I believe or somewhat alike!

Where I live (Madison, Wisconsin) we have what amounts to an infestation of gulls. They fly around in huge flocks and squawk noisily. Their droppings are a serious problem for certain apartment building roofs. Individually, they are beautiful birds. Collectively, here, they are something of a nightmare.

Hello over there,
we actually have an increase in storks here on the other side of the world. Now I’m waiting for the children’s first flight trials. If you are interested:

Those seagulls are fascinating! We get them here, usually a mix of white and grey and yellow (I think for feet, though now I’m trying to think about it it’s hard to picture!) We get a heck of a lot of pigeons, which I’m not a fan of at all. Too many bad experiences with pigeon poop and when they’re not pooping they seem to like flying towards my head. Nugget is gorgeous! ♥ ♥

Birds can be pretty territorial, so perhaps you were close to a nest?

That would be more logical, but no, this is in our town centre and I’ve never seen anything to suggest there are nests anywhere. The simple reason, da-AL, is that pigeons are evil 😂

That’s one beautiful seagull! I love those labrador retrieverish dogs as well, beautiful and good natured.
The most colourful birds we have in the countryside are the male pheasants, I think, they live in woodland meadows, and then the kingfisher, which lives along lakes and small rivers.

Thank you! We are lucky to live near several nature parks.

Predators – I suspect they have something to do with the bland colors of our birds. That red footed seagull is a very handsome dude. As is that sweet faced pooch.

I have always wanted to see Australia!
When there’s a hurricane in the eastern US the seagulls come to West Virginia to escape from the storms.
Nugget looks like a happy doggy ❤
