Outspoken and Ancient Art in North Carolina by da-AL

Brash and outspoken, traditional and gorgeous, if you love great art, North Carolina is happiness. This and this post, as well as this one and this one, introduced how much I love the North Carolina Museum of Art. (This one tells of NC’s amazing Chinese Lantern Festival.)That was in only one of their two buildings…

A second one houses a collection that dates as far back as Egyptian mummies…

… and as recent as works by the artists commissioned to paint official portraits of former U.S. President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama…

  1. great art indeed !! … I guess my favorite art museum is the Louvre in Paris, I remember my first visit there was with my mom and my brother when I was 9 and I was very impressed with the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci

  3. What a progressive museum to offer such variety about the human experience. Art not only reflects the vision of the artist, it also tells of the time period in which it was created. Each artwork offers history, intrigue, and discussion opportunities. Is Karen LaMonte’s Dress as soft and silky as it looks? The hint of the person who wore it – maybe the viewer! No wonder you love this museum, Daal.

Happy Persian New Year to you and your hubby. Hope you’re celebrating with fun, food, family, friends – all the wonderful “F” words!!!!

  4. I just spent the last 30 minutes transfixed by the world and work of Karen LaMonte,, via the link you provided. Her work is not only gorgeous, it’s imbued by her sense of history and culture. What talent this woman has. I’ll look to see if there is a LaMonte exhibit near me.
