I mean where she faces the camera but doesn’t look like you’re choking her (which I sort of am in these because she’d much prefer to chase birds and cats across the street than be a model).
A kind reader lamented that she wanted to see more blog posts by me. Though now I feel sort of like a narcissist, that made me think that maybe other readers might feel the same way, so here’re some photos of one of my beloved dogs. I wanted to show her to you on my newly revised site, but the dear girl wasn’t having it.
Have you had luck shooting great eye-ball-to-lens pictures of your pets?…
Not really, but sometimes. When we first got our cats one of them wouldn’t even look us in the eyes. She is better now, but not a fan of the camera. I say there are never enough dog posts.

I totally get where you are coming from! Everytime I pull out my phone to snap a photo, the dog just turns away. I even try to play it off like I am just texting away. For some reason she just knows I want a photo.

Most animals (when they are aware of what you are doing) don’t like direct photographs. Actually, the same expression occurs if you walk up to a stranger and take a photograph of their face… They do not understand your motivation for wanting to capture a moment of their time. Many tribes do not like photographs either. For some, they feel that you are capturing their soul or essence and keeping it hostage within the image. Most religions actually warn against the worship of images… Something that the modern world has forgotten and would dismiss. Yet, how many times do we look at a photograph of ourselves and hate it? We see the image as capturing all our faults and none of the good stuff. Images are just that… An imperfect copy. We are much more than our outer body, and so are animals. The expression on your dog’s face is so telling. 😊

No I haven’t had any luck. Every time I’m about to take a photo of my cat’s face, a split second before I tap the photo button on my phone, he runs away. Every time.
